Chapter Eight:

Miyagi unlocked the front door to his apartment, walking in. 'I'm still surprised that Shinobu left without me.' He dropped his bag, looking around the living room.

"Shinobu?" He called, frowning. "Maybe he's at his apartment..." Miyagi grabbed his key to Shinobu's apartment, quickly checking each of the other rooms in his own apartment to see if Shinobu had fallen asleep. Sighing when he didn't find the young boy, he walked out of his apartment across to Shinobu's. He unlocked the door, walking in and looking around. He frowned, seeing no sign that Shinobu had been here recently. He searched every room thoroughly, still finding nothing. "What the hell? Where is he?" Miyagi felt worry budding within him, and had to force himself not to panic. He rushed back to his apartment, grabbing his phone and calling Kamijou. The assistant professor answered on the second ring.

"Hello?"

"Have you seen Shinobu!"

"... What? Of course I haven't. I haven't seen him since I left this morning. Why?" Miyagi's panic flared to life again.

"Because he's not here, or at his apartment..." Kamijou was silent for a moment.

"Well... I guess we should probably go out and look for him?" Kamijou spoke carefully. Miyagi nodded, then remembered that Kamijou couldn't see him.

"Yes, we should." He thought for a moment. "I'll go start at the school, see if I find any idea of where he might be."

"Okay, I'll try between your apartment and the university. If I can't find him, I'll search the rest of the city... I'll call you if I find anything."

"Okay, so will I. Bye." Miyagi hung up, grabbing his keys and running out of the apartment. He climbed into the car, pulling out of his parking space and driving towards the university. He tried desperately to keep an eye on both sides of the road in search of Shinobu, while still concentrating on his driving. He groaned when it started raining, and he needed to keep his full attention on the road before him. He soon arrived at the university. He jumped out of the car and looked around. He couldn't see more then a few feet in front of him; the rain was too heavy. 'Poor Kamijou, his search is going to be hell...' Miyagi hurried into the university, away from the pouring rain.

All the lights in the university were turned off, and the building looked abnormally menacing. Miyagi walked forward slowly. He stopped at the first door he came across, opening it and peeking in. The room was dark- too dark for him to see clearly. He walked into the room, searching under every desk and in every corner for Shinobu. He let out a sigh, finding no trace of the boy. He walked out, continuing his search in other rooms. His search, somehow, brought him to the inside parking lot. The entire lot was deserted. He noticed something laying on the ground, not far from where he was standing. A jolt of horror went through him when he saw what it was.

'Shinobu's bag...' He picked it up, his hand shaking. He glared at the school, running into the building. He continued searching rooms, determined to find out where Shinobu was. His search brought him to a locked storage room. Regardless of the fact it was locked, Miyagi grabbed the handle and tried to open the door.

"Damn it!" He groaned, pressing his forehead against the closed door. "I don't have the key... This was the last room..." He slammed his fist against the door. He jumped, surprised, when his phone vibrated in his pocket. He didn't bother checking the caller id before answering.

"Hello?"

"Miyagi?" Miyagi sighed, disappointed about who was on the other line. It was his ex-wife, and Shinobu's sister.

"Yes, do you need something? I'm kinda busy right now."

"Um, I was wondering if Shinobu was there. His cell is turned off, so I can't get a hold of him." Miyagi's eyes widened. 'So he doesn't have his cell...'

"No, he's not. Sorry, I'm not home. Um, may I ask why you're looking for him through me?"

"Oh! Well, I know he lives near you, and still likes you for some reason. My father was looking for him so he could come to a family dinner we're having soon." Miyagi sighed. 'So she doesn't know anything about what happened to him, damn.'

"Well, I'm really sorry I can't help you. I'll try and remember to tell him you called."

"Thanks Miyagi." She hung up, leaving Miyagi still feeling disappointed.

"Well, I should probably go home, maybe Kamijou has found him..." Miyagi glared at the locked door one more time before exiting the building.
